From hobbyist to professional...

This may seem like a question too simple to review, but it’s one that a lot of artists struggle with.

Are you a hobbyist, or a professional?

Artists all begin as hobbyists; pursuing a skill or talent for the simple enjoyment of it. but, as we begin to master our talents, we may begin to see opportunities to turn our passions into a business.

Soon, friends and family want to buy our work, strangers too! When we see that we may actually be able to profit from a hobby, we might think we're ready to become a Yarnpreneur… But, are we?

What is a Yarnpreneur?

By definition, an Entrepreneur is one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business. In short, a Yarnpreneur is an entrepreneur in the yarn industry.

But, being a Yarnpreneur is more than just pursuing a hobby or passion, or someone looking to earn extra money as a side-hustle. So, we have a more focused definition for them:

Yarnpreneurs are entrepreneurs who have the passion, skill and ability to create real value in the yarn world.

Real value; we can’t stress that enough.

What does it mean to create real value?

When a good or service has real value, it actually solves a problem.

Anything can be a problem solving, value producing thing: A piece of information that is easy to find and apply, a product that brings joy and fulfillment, a service that makes the lives of others better or easier.

Our actions, services and products are only valuable when they help others. And, anything that is valuable is a real solution and service.

What kind of Yarnpreneur are you?

A Yarnpreneur can be a knitter, crocheter, weaver, editor, dyer… anything that helps to promote the yarn industry, and adds real value to the lives of others!
